Privacy policy
The short version
China Unfolded is astatic website. There is no server-side database, no user account, no login, and no comment system. We do not ask for your name, email or passport details, and we never store them.
- We do not sell or rent any data, because we do not have any to sell.
- We do not run fingerprinting or cross-site tracking.
- The only data that ever leaves your device is: your IP address (seen by any web server and by the geolocation service we use to guess your language), and — if analytics is enabled — anonymous usage statistics.
Why we look at your IP address
To show you the right language without making you hunt for a switcher, the site asks a public geolocation service to map your country to a likely language. This is a country-level lookup only — it does not produce a precise location and is not stored. The result is saved in your browser's local storage so we do not ask again.
You can override it at any time with the language menu in the header, which is remembered
locally. Adding?lang=fr to any URL also forces a language.
Cookies and advertising
We show advertising throughGoogle AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. This is the standard behaviour of essentially every free website, and it is the only reason this site can stay free.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of a range of third-party ad cookies at aboutads.info (US) oryouronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- Blocking cookies in your browser does not break this site — the content is plain HTML.
If you are in the EEA, UK or Brazil, the site requests consent before loading analytics. Advertising cookies are subject to the same consent rules in those regions.
Analytics
If analytics is configured, we use Google Analytics 4 (or a privacy-friendly alternative such as Plausible) to understand which guides people actually read. These tools report aggregate numbers — page views, country, device type — and we do not use them to identify individuals. The site also honours your browser's "Do Not Track" setting.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to booking, eSIM, insurance and tour services are affiliate links, which means we may receive a small commission if you buy through them. This never increases the price you pay, and it is disclosed on the pages where those links appear.
Third-party sites and your visa
We link to official sources — the National Immigration Administration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the General Administration of Customs — and to airlines, booking platforms and app stores. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when the site changes. Questions about privacy can be sent to [email protected].
Visa, customs and tax rules change without notice. Always confirm with the National Immigration Administration (NIA) or the Chinese embassy in your country before you book.
